Justin Rose and Jamie Donaldson share lead after round 1 at 2013 Abu Dhabi HSBC, Woods and McIlroy struggle

The first round of the 2013 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship is in the books.  Jamie Donaldson and world #5 Justin Rose share the top spot at -5 with 67s.  Donaldson, of Wales, and the Englishman Rose both carded 6 birdies and only 1 bogey.  Donaldson played in the morning wave while Rose went out in the afternoon.  Tied for third and one stroke back of the leaders are Thorbjorn Oleson of Denmark and Pablo Larrazabal of Spain.  Liang Wen Chong, George Coetzee, Henrik Stenson, Michael Campbell, and David Howell round out the top 5 and are all tied at 3-under par.

The marquee group of the tournament featured Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, and Martin Kaymer.  Kaymer had the best round in the group and shot 1-under par.  Woods, who had it to 2-under par at the turn, struggled on his back nine with three bogeys and a birdie to finish at even par.  McIlroy, the world's number 1 player, struggled in his opening round as a member of Nike's golf stable and shot 3-over par 75.  McIlroy had 2 double bogeys and only 2 birdies in his opening round of 2013.

The second round begins tonight, with Rose teeing off in the morning wave and Woods and McIlroy teeing off in the afternoon wave.  As of now, McIlroy is outside the projected cut line so he needs some strong play to make it to the weekend.
