The first round of the 2013 Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation is in the books. The weather was beautiful in Palm Springs where the three courses looked pristine today. Low scores were aplenty, where 121 of the 156 golfers shot under par. Conditions were ideal for low scoring, as seen by each of the three courses surrendering a 63.
Leading the pack after the first round are Roberto Castro, Jason Kokrak, and James Hahn. Each shot 9-under par 63 and each played on a different golf course. Castro played on the Nicklaus Private course, Kokrak on the La Quinta Country Club, and Hahn on the Palmer Private course. A shot back of the leaders are Aaron Baddeley, Russell Henley, Greg Chalmers and Doug Labelle.
Henley continued his strong play. The rookie who won last week at the Sony Open fired a 64 to maintain his scoring average on tour.
Other notable players in the field include Patrick Cantlay, who shot 65 and is at 7-under par. Zach Johnson is at 6-under par. Brandt Snedeker is at 5-under par. Phil Mickelson, who is making his 2013 season debut, shot even-par.
Play continues on the three courses tomorrow.
