Phil Mickelson wins 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open

From the first tee shot on Thursday, Phil Mickelson has had his A game in Scottsdale.  With an opening round 60, Mickelson has lead wire-to-wire and finished the week with his 41st career PGA Tour victory.  A final-round 67 propelled Mickelson to a 3-stroke victory over Brandt Snedeker, who rallied early but fell back late with a 6-under par 65, just did not have enough to make up the 6-shot deficit.

Finishing 5-strokes back of Mickelson was Scott Piercy, who fired a final-round 61 to match his career low on the PGA Tour.  Ryan Moore fired a final-round 65 to finish solo 4th.

Mickelson started the final round with a six-stroke lead over Snedeker, but the lead was cut to 4 by hole 3.  At the turn, Snedeker had drawn within 3 shots with a bogey-free 31.  Mickelson fired a one-under 34 on the front nine.   The lead was maintained at three strokes for much of the front nine, and Snedeker never could claw his way closer.  Heading into hole 18, Mickelson remained 3 strokes ahead of Snedeker.

With the win, Mickelson moves to 3rd in the FedEx Cup Rankings.  Snedeker's second place finish propelled him to the top of the FedEx Cup ranking, though he has yet to win on tour this year.  Mickelson will move back into the top-10 in the Official World Golf Ranking.  Snedeker will remain within the top-10 as well.
