Rookies Russell Henley and Scott Langley are tied at 17-under par heading into the final round at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Langley, who graduated from Q School this past fall, and Henley, who was in the top-25 on the Web.com tour money list, both are vying for their first career PGA Tour wins and two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.
Henley, a graduate of the University of Georgia, took the lead into the third round after consecutive 63s in the opening two rounds. He held a two-stroke lead over Langley and held the lead until a birdie by Langley at 13. The players traded the lead back and forth until Henley rolled in a birdie putt at 18 to tie Langley at 17-under par.
The two players are not strangers, as both shared the low amateur title at the 2010 US Open Championship at Pebble Beach. Both players are former Walker Cuppers as well. Langley is a former NCAA Collegiate Individual Champion who starred for the University of Illinois, while Henley is a three-time winner on the Web.com tour. Henley and Langley were paired in the first two rounds as well so they have gotten to know each other's game quite well the past 3 days.
Three shots back of the leaders is Tim Clark, who is finally back to full strength after injuries robbed him of the past couple of seasons. The former Players Champion is at 14-under par.
