Chevron World Challenge Day 4

Tiger Wins!

The course was beautiful today, and the conditions were primed for good golf.  The pins were in their usual Sunday positions, atop some ridges and in some tough locations.  So the scores were not all that low but there was some great golf out there.

Really the only two golfers who had a chance throughout the whole round were Tiger and Zach Johnson.  Both fired punches back at each other throughout the whole round.  Hole 16 is where everything could have changed.  Tiger, with his power, would have been expected to fire at the green in 2.  However, he played very conservative (which he should have done yesterday) and had a 15 footer for birdie.  Johnson did the same thing and had a 10 footer.  Tiger missed his low and Johnson rolled his in.  One up for Zach.

Both players headed to the 17th.  Tiger could have folded, but he stuck his shot in close.  Johnson also hit a nice tee shot and hit a great putt that just missed on the high side of the lip.  Tiger needed the putt to go, and it did.  It was one of those putts that you used to expect Tiger to make all the time.  And he needed it to go to the last hole even.

At 18, both players hit great drives in the fairway, about 160 yards out.  Zach Johnson is away, and hits his approach to 15 feet right of the hole, which left a tough downhill putt for birdie.  Tiger hit a beautiful approach to 8 feet away from the hole.  Johnson took forever to read the putt and finally hit it, and came up low.  Tiger stepped up to his putt and sunk it for the win.  -10 and 69 today.

After the win, Tiger will move from 52nd in the world rankings to around 21.
