Tiger Woods wins 2013 Farmers Insurance Open: Recap and Review

Tiger Woods captured his 75th career PGA Tour victory on Monday in San Diego at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course.  Woods started Monday with a six-stroke lead, grew the lead to eight, but fell back and won the tournament by 4 strokes over Brandt Snedeker and Josh Teater.  Woods fired a final-round 72 to finish at 14-under par for the tournament.

The Farmers Insurance Open was scheduled to be completed Sunday, but a full wash-out Saturday due to fog pushed the finish back to Monday.  But the wait was worth it for Woods, who became the first PGA Tour professional to win eight times on the same golf course.  Woods has won the Farmers Insurance Open 7 times (6 times when it was the Buick Invitational) and one US Open at Torrey Pines.  Woods also tied his personal record of seven victories in one tournament, which he has matched at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.  Woods trails Sam Snead, who won the Greater Greensboro Open eight times.

Rounding out the top-5 were Nick Watney and Jimmy Walker, who finished 5 shots back at -9.  Watney made a run at Woods on the front nine, but four bogeys on the back saw him fall from second place to the tie for fourth.

With the win, Woods will maintain his second spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, but will pull closer to world #1 Rory McIlroy.  He jumps into the FedEx Cup Ranking in fourth place, behind Brian Gay, Russell Henley, and Dustin Johnson.  Woods has yet to announce his next event, but may not play again until the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship.

Woods will look to build off his win, as he has gone on to win 4+ times each time he has won this tournament, and major championships also are in his sights.
