Two days are in the books at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California. First-round leader Michael Thompson found himself with a 3-stroke lead heading into play today at -4. Tiger Woods, among others, were three back at -1. Rory McIlroy shot +7, Luke Donald a 79 for 9-over par, and Phil Mickelson carded a 76 on the par-70 layout.
The second round started early this morning. Finishing his round at -1 over the two days, Jim Furyk held the clubhouse lead throughout the day. No more players in the morning wave threatened the lead, but McIlroy and Donald both missed the cut.
In the afternoon wave, Tiger Woods got off to a strong start, reaching -2 and a solo lead. But three straight bogeys on 5, 6, and 7 dropped him back to +1. Two birdies on the way in helped him reach one-under par for the tournament, and ended the day with an even-par 70 to share the lead with Furyk.
Beau Hossler, a young 17 year-old amateur from California held the solo lead at -2 for a few holes, but ended up finishing the day at +3.
David Toms also carded an even-par 70 and also holds a share of the overnight lead.
