Hole 1 at Olympic Club is a long, downhill par 4. In the past US Opens at the course, Hole 1 played as a short, reachable par 5 for the players. The tee shot requires a left-to-right ballflight for the players. There is a lot of room in front of the green to bounce an approach onto the green. A miss left near the green may find brush and an unplayable lie.
